Business math
This course is a one year math course for Homer High School but has the potential for three college credits through Tompkins Cortland Community College (TC3), BUAD 109: Personal Money Management. It is important to note that these credits for TC3 transfer in as BUSINESS ELECTIVES, NOT MATH COURSES.
BUAD 109: Personal Money Management for TC3 and is designed to give students personal and practical money skills that will be beneficial to them throughout life. While investigating current trends in the economy, topics of study will include: budgeting, checking and savings accounts, credit and charge cards, loans, buying a vehicle, buying a home/renting, insurance and investments.
The second semester of this course focuses on the math of managing and running a business and is designed to give students the opportunity to understand mathematics as it applies to businesses. How do they function? How do they ensure they have enough products? How do they know if they made a profit? Topics of study in this course will include: personnel and staffing costs, production and purchasing costs, sales, marketing and service costs and introductory accounting.
