Through hands-on experience with computers and class discussions, students develop an appreciation of business operations and specific applications of computer technology relevant for high school, college and career!! In this project based learning course, students learn to develop professional documents and research skills via Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and Access) and Google Chrome. Course Objectives: The overall objective of this course is to give students the skills necessary to create professional, organized documents using the Microsoft Office Suite. These skills will benefit the student through their high school career, into college and the world of work. · Develop professional documents (brochures, letters, reports, flyers, etc) in Word and Publisher · Create spreadsheets, charts, tables and graphs to analyze data in Excel · Design presentations for personal, professional and academic use in PowerPoint · Create databases for queries and mail merges in Access Required Texts and Materials/Optional Materials as Appropriate:
Required Readings, Presentations, Written Assignments, etc.: Class Participation/Professionalism (30% of grade): Regular class attendance is expected and necessary for success. There will be many supplemental activities (problem solving, small group exercises, class discussions, guest lecturers, videos, computer projects, etc) to the curriculum which is essential to overall learning. In terms of professionalism, as this is a business class, you will be held to the expectations and standards of the business world. Remember this in your actions, words and behaviors. Class participation and professionalism account for 30% of your grade. Projects (70% of grade): Each unit will require the completion of at least one major project as your summative evaluation. The great majority of these projects can and should be completed during the given class time.
